Position Details:
The Department of Occupational and Environmental Health at The University of Iowa College of Public Health invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in Occupational Ergonomics at the level of Professor, Associate Professor or Assistant Professor. Applications may also be considered at the level of Faculty Associate.



The Department of Occupational and Environmental Health offers a rich environment for collaborative research including a NIOSH-funded Agricultural Health Center, an NIEHS-funded Environmental Health Sciences Research Center, a CDC-funded Injury Prevention Research Center, a Superfund Basic Research Program, and a NIOSH-funded Healthier Workforce Center for Excellence. The department is also host of the Heartland Center, a NIOSH-funded education and research center in occupational health and safety.



The successful applicant will be expected to teach graduate courses in ergonomics, direct graduate thesis research, and develop an extramurally funded research program.

ASSISTANT OR ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR (CLINICAL)

Position Details:
Responsibilities for this full time faculty position include clinical and didactic teaching of student pharmacists and pediatric clinical pharmacotherapy services at St. Lukes Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. St. Lukes is multi-specialty, 560 bed acute care facility, including a 17 bed Pediatric Unit that can be adapted as needed for intensive care and a 22 bed Level II Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Cedar Rapids is about 20 miles from the University of Iowa campus. Clinical Track faculty participate in teaching, patient care, service and professional engagement. The Division has over 40 faculty and supports the clinical teaching mission of the Doctor of Pharmacy program.



Responsibilities include providing pharmaceutical care to pediatric patients, precepting student pharmacists on rotation, coordinating introductory practice experiences at the practice setting, providing didactic lectures in Therapeutics and other PharmD courses, and participating in Professional Practice Laboratory courses. Academic service and professional activities are expected, as well as participation in interdisciplinary committees and performance improvement initiatives. Demonstrated experience working effectively in a diverse environment.

Position Details:
The Department of Health Management and Policy, in the College of Public Health at The University of Iowa, seeks tenure eligible candidates for the position of Department Head. The Department Head serves as the departmental executive officer and reports directly to the Dean of the College. The Department is one of five academic units and thirty research and training centers within the College.



Since becoming a unit within the College of Public Health, the Department of Health Management and Policy has significantly enhanced its faculty complement, research portfolio, and academic programming. The Departments 13 primary faculty members currently serve as PIs for over million in grants and contracts. The Departments MHA program is nationally-recognized and the PhD curriculum recently was revised and is strong. The Department has collaborative arrangements with the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, other colleges and departments within the University, and a broad range of healthcare organizations. Combined degree programs are in place with the Colleges of Business and Law and with the Department of Urban and Regional Planning.



Over 1,100 alumni of the MHA program work in a wide variety of hospitals, health systems, and other healthcare organizations throughout the nation and overseas. PhD program alumni hold positions in many academic institutions and professional associations, as well as operational settings. The HMP Alumni Association is well-organized, is one of the Colleges Founding Partners, and provides significant advisory and financial resources to the Department.



Candidates must possess a doctoral degree in a related field, have an established record of scholarly achievement, publications, external grant funding in health services research, and administrative leadership experience. The candidate must understand the business of health care and be able to foster effective, multi-disciplinary collaboration with academic departments throughout the university and with health-related organizations in the public and private sectors. The candidate also must have a demonstrated commitment to diversity in the work/academic environment. S/he should be able to mentor graduate students and junior faculty, and contribute effectively to innovative instructional programs at both the doctoral and masters degree level. Appointment at the level of professor is expected.

The University of Iowa College of Public Health seeks a dedicated and experienced leader for the Head of the Department of Community and Behavioral Health. The Department Head serves as the departmental executive officer and reports directly to the Dean of the College. The successful candidate will facilitate the growing national reputation of the Department in research, service, and teaching, and will work closely with other academic units and state and community partners to foster interdisciplinary collaboration. It is presumed that the new Head will be appointed at the level of Professor with Tenure.



The College of Public Health, established in 1999, has grown to include 82 full-time faculty positions and over 425 graduate students. The annual revenues in FY07 were more than million, of which million was from external research funding. The College of Public Health has five departments; Community and Behavioral Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Health Management and Policy, and Occupational and Environmental Health. Dr. Susan Curry, an internationally recognized public health researcher and inspiring academic leader, joined the College as Dean in August, 2008. The College has a very successful fundraising campaign underway and will complete a new, state-of-the-art college building in fall, 2010. The College offers a collaborative, high-energy culture, and engages with many academic, government, and community partners.



The Department of Community and Behavioral Health was the only new Department created with the establishment of the College of Public Health. The Department has 11 primary faculty, 52 students, and .2 million in research funding. The Department excels in research and teaching in the areas of smoking cessation and prevention, alcohol/drug abuse and dependence, health communication, mental health, community development and empowerment, injury prevention, obesity, public health program evaluations, and youth risk behaviors. The Department excels in developing, evaluating, and disseminating evidence-based practices including community-level interventions. In addition to thedegrees in community and behavioral health (MPH, MS, and PhD), the Department offers graduate degree subtracks in health communication, maternal, child,and family health, nutrition and exercise, addiction studies, and occupational injury prevention research. The department currently houses four research centers: the CDC funded Prevention Research Center, the SAMHSA funded Prairieland Addiction Technology Transfer Center, the Iowa Tobacco Research Center, and the Center for Health Communication and Social Marketing.



Candidates for head of the Department of Community and Behavioral Health must have a PhD, DrPH, or an MD (with an MPH preferred), and at least 5 years of academic experience in a community health and/or behavioral/social science discipline relevant to public health. A record of research productivity, including extramural funding, and teaching experience are required. The candidate must demonstrate leadership and administrative ability, evidence of collaborative efforts in teaching and/or research, and a record of community service. The candidate must also demonstrate knowledge of effective strategies for working with diverse faculty, staff, and students, and a commitment to promoting a diverse environment.

BIOSTATISTICS FACULTY, CLINICAL TRIALS

Position Details:
The University of Iowa Department of Biostatistics seeks a senior biostatistician to take on a leadership role in the Clinical Trials Statistical and Data Management Center (CTSDMC). The mission of this Center is to facilitate innovative multi-center clinical trials. It coordinates design, analysis and data management for NIH sponsored multi-center trials. The successful candidate will be appointed as a senior faculty member in the Department of Biostatistics of The University of Iowa College of Public Health. Established in 1989, the CTSDMC is now the data coordinating center (DCC) for an NIH-funded network, and several NIH funded multi-center trials. The current staff of 30 includes biostatisticians, database programmers, research assistants and project managers with a broad range of statistical, clinical, technical and regulatory expertise.



The CTSDMC is currently directed by Dr. William R. Clarke. This position is for a suitably qualified individual to serve as Co-Director. This individual will provide leadership and vision for the CTSDMC, be responsible for development of infrastructure and collaborate with clinician-scientists to identify ideas for sponsored research, and on the submission of applications for funding. The position will also include teaching in the Biostatistics Department and participation in the Biostatistics graduate programs. Competitive salary and start-up support are available.

FACULTY PRACTITIONER (CLINICAL-TRACK OR LECTURER)

Position Details:
The University of Iowa College of Nursing seeks an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner in Adult/Geriatrics to serve as a Housecalls Faculty Practitioner. This is a full time fiscal (12-month) faculty rank position at the College of Nursing with a teaching role and a practice/service role.



In the practice role, the Housecalls Faculty Practitioner will provide the community with exceptional nursing-based health care while supplying the College of Nursing with clinical opportunities for the faculty, staff, and students as well as a source of revenue. The Housecalls Faculty Practitioner will function as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner. Practice duties will include: providing direct patient care in the form of assessment, diagnosis, and plan of care for clients; documentation and billing of above; scheduling own patient case load; teaching and consultation (formal and/or informal) with families, staff, and patients. Teaching responsibilities will consist of teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses during the academic year (fall and spring semesters) and during the summer semester.



The selected candidate will be expected to currently have or successfully complete CPR certification, HIPPA training, and Mandatory reporter training as a condition of employment.
