Description:
The Purchasing Assistant for the School of Engineering will be the liaison between Engineering and the Purchasing Department. The Purchasing Assistant will provide comprehensive oversight and coordination of all purchasing and reimbursement functions for all School of Engineering faculty, staff, students and research groups. Purchase activities will include the processing and input of transactions, analysis and preparation of documentation, problem resolution, and evaluation of compliance with policies and procedures. The Purchasing Assistant serves as the primary contact for the School of Engineering community, providing direction and training as needed for the efficient handling of business transactions. The Purchasing Assistant will also have oversight and coordination of the day-to-day activities of the Dean’s suite front office and work with student employees to meet the goals of the department.

Qualifications:
• Associate degree preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Demonstrated independent organizational and project management skills including the ability to coordinate and prioritize a diverse workload, set and meet competing deadlines and establish systems to effectively manage projects and other information.

• Knowledge of accounting principles and practices, including hands-on experience with an automated financial system.

• Ability to read, understand, interpret and apply policies and procedures.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills required, including use of proper grammar, punctuation, spelling and standard business formats.

• Ability to act independently and follow through on assignments.

• Ability to independently resolve problems.

• Ability to maintain complete discretion, confidentiality, sensitivity and professional judgment.

• Demonstrated knowledge of Windows MS Office or Open Source based computer programs.

• Excellent organizational and customer service skills

• Ability to work independently and effectively in a fast-paced environment.

• Knowledge of University of California Policies and Procedures preferred.
