Delaware State University is located in the geographic center of Delaware and in the historic city of Dover, the capital of the state. Delaware State University is searching to fill the vacant position of Dean of the College of Business.   The position is now open for applications and nominations for a dynamic leader that will build upon the progress made thus far in the College and in the University.  Delaware State University was established May 15, 1891 by the Delaware General Assembly under the provisions of the Morrill Act of 1890 by which land-grant colleges for African Americans came into existence.    The College of Business provides a student-centered learning environment that develops successful business professionals with a global perspective. The College emphasizes academic excellence through innovation and integrity in teaching, professional development, applied and instructional research and outreach.  The College of Business offers undergraduate and graduate programs in three departments: Accounting, Economics and Finance; Business Administration; and Sports Management. Over 30 full-time faculty members are appointed within the College. The College offers baccalaureate degrees in Accounting, Aviation, Hospitality and Tourism, Management, Sports Management and MBA with concentrations in Aviation Management, Finance, Information Systems and Project Management. The College also offers the Master of Science degree in Sports Administration. The College operates six research centers: Center for Economic Development and International Trade; Delaware Center for Enterprise Development; Food Business Incubation Center; Center for the Study of Innovation Management; Center for Information Technology Services; and the Delaware Center for Transportation. A terminal degree in a business or related field is preferred.  Also,  an experienced executive with significant corporate credentials that is familiar with business education and academic values will be considered. Its close proximity to the city of Philadelphia afforded Caesar Rodney a short horseback ride to sign the Declaration of Independence. The Constitution, the document that continues to protect our nation’s liberty, also declared Delaware as the “The First State” of the new Federal Union.  Arguably one of the best-kept secrets on the East Coast, Dover, with its current population of 35,810, provides a small-town flavor without the hustle and bustle found on some city campuses. General Description of the Position The Dean is the chief academic, fiscal and administrative officer of the AACSB- accredited College of Business and reports directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.  The Dean provides mature and visionary leadership to the faculty and staff in all matters related to curriculum and program development; academic planning and budgeting; strategic planning that includes market planning; accreditation and assessment standards; educational policies and procedures; recruitment and retention of faculty, staff and students; research, scholarship and external grant activity.  The Dean will pursue actively collaborations with corporations and other organizations, as well as fundraising for the College in concert with the Office of Institutional Advancement. The Dean will build upon the University’s strong culture of interdisciplinary research and will enhance the commitment to academic excellence.  The College of Business also has an active Business Advisory Council.    The College of Business offers undergraduate and graduate programs in three departments: Accounting, Economics and Finance; Business Administration; and Sport Management. Reporting to the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean will be the chief academic officer of the College, responsible for academic enhancement, fiscal planning and strategic planning. Will enhance the commitment to academic excellence and will maintain and enhance the Graduate studies curriculum within the College.  Will provide leadership for the College and foster excellence in teaching, research, and service to the community. Will serve as a primary spokesperson for the College in its relationships with diverse constituencies both internal and external to the University including the College alumni. Serve on all committees and academic groups that will enhance the viability and accessibility of the College. Will provide recommendations on all matters pertaining to college programs, personnel and college facilities Will research and implement new programs and initiatives in order to enhance the academic standards of the College. The Dean will guide and manage the College in its preparation to meet and sustain regional and AACSB International accreditations. Will actively participate in all University fundraising initiatives. Responsible for fostering and managing the acquisition of state, federal, and private grants. Will serve in a leadership capacity with many statewide business organizations.   Other Functions The dean may be assigned one or more of the following tasks on a rotating or as needed basis. Serve in committees, organizations, and groups as assigned by the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and the President of the University. Demonstrated commitment to outreach and service to the public through off campus programs and distance education.   Qualification Standards Education:  Terminal degree in a business or related field preferred. Experienced Executive with significant corporate credentials that is familiar with business education and academic values will be considered. Excellent academic record in teaching, research, and service in an academic setting desirable. Proven organizational and leadership skills in an AACSB International accredited business school preferred.
