The Assistant Director of Risk Management/ Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) reports to the Director of Risk Management, and is responsible for managing, directing, and coordinating the safety and hazardous material programs at Bucknell University. BS degree in a discipline related to EH&S (safety science) and/or certification in safety management and hazardous material management, with 5 to 7 years of progressively responsible experience in the EH&S environment. The Assistant Direcftor of Risk/Management/EH&S must be able to interpret regulatory standards and apply those standards to varying operations at Bucknell University; to implement programs and policies affecting students, faculty, and staff of the University; to supervise, both directly and indirectly, the actions of employees and students. This position requires the ability to plan a systematic course of action necessary for a successful safety/hazardous material/health program; to create an understanding and awareness of good safety practices among individuals; to encourage individuals to improve their knowledge, attitudes, and skills by means of a comprehensive safety awareness program. He or she should possess strong written and oral communication skills and demonstrate the ability to interact sensitively and effectively in an academic community. The Assistant Director of Risk Management/EH&S must be able to traverse all levels of campus buildings, grounds; work under pressure; work occasionally outdoors during times of extremes in temperature- under snowy, icy, rainy, and/or foggy conditions.
